In response to the article which appeared on the front page of the Durango Herald today, 3/14/2017. The wells referred to in this article are private wells, are not held to the same testing standards Animas Water Company, and are not regulated by any agency. Animas Water Company is a public water system with ground water wells located throughout the Animas Valley. We are subject to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) standards and testing requirements. Testing is continuously performed monthly, as well as annually, and all results are compiled and published into our annual Consumer Confidence Reports (CCR). Our historic CCR’s can be found under our documents tab on the main web page. Animas Water Company has no violations and all results are within the acceptable water quality standards as set by the CDPHE. Please be assured, Animas Water Company does not add Fluoride to our water. Any detected Fluoride is naturally occurring as a result of the geological composition of soils and bedrock. Community water systems are required to ensure that levels of fluoride in their drinking water are less than 4.0 ppm to be in compliance with EPA drinking water regulations. Our 2015 Consumer Confidence Report, published in 2016, showed the naturally occurring level of Fluoride was .41 and was within the acceptable range of 0 to .65. Animas Water Company would like to let you know of a planned water outage which will occur on Tuesday 10/04/2016 and affect properties located on CR 203 from 3606 CR 203 to 3911 CR 203 and will include Waterfall Village and Water Fall Ln. The outage will begin at approximately 9:00am. We are asking our affected customers to plan for the water to be out for the entire day but would like to assure you our operators will be working diligently to get the water back on line as quickly as possible. Notice is hereby given that the 45th Annual Meeting of the Members of the Animas Water Company will be held on Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 at 6:00pm at the Animas Grange Hall, Durango, CO Business will include 2016 Budget review, Election of One (1) Director, for a three (3) year term, and other business.
Publication of the Annual Meeting will appear in the Durango Herald on February 20th, 2016 and February 27th, 2016.
Proxies and an Annual Newsletter will be mailed during the week of February 22nd, 2016.
NOTE: If you cannot be present at this meeting, you may wish to execute and return the attached proxy to permit someone, who will be present at the meeting, to vote on your behalf. We would very much appreciate having all the proxies returned at least one day prior (March 8th, 2016) to the date of the meeting. Animas Water Company is paying close attention to the situation unfolding in Flint, Michigan, and our thoughts are with all those who are struggling with access to safe and reliable water in their homes. The Gold King Event has heightened the awareness of our customers about the safety of the water they are drinking. Animas Water Company is confident in the quality of our water and is working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to monitor the levels of all metals and pathogens. The problems the utility company in Flint is having are the result of switching their source and the corrosion of service lines within their distribution system. The lead in the drinking water is not from the source, it is from the service lines and plumbing inside the home. In our community we do not have lead service lines, and we regularly test for lead and copper at the tap in several homes in our system as required by CDPHE.

Dear Animas Water Company Members:
Effective January 1st, 2016, Residential and Commercial Monthly Base Rates will increase by almost 5%. The Board of Directors took this action in response to ever increasing costs and an aging infrastructure. The Board feels small periodic increases in the present will decrease the likelihood of a major increase in rates like our good friends and neighbors are experiencing in the City of Durango. This change will be reflected on the January 2016 billing statement.
The new Fee Structure is available for you on our website www.animaswatercompany.com under the documents page and this form is also included in the Rules and Regulations towards the end. Please note: during the winter months, our water operators may not be able to safely access and read every meter in our water system; therefore your monthly meter reading may have to be estimated, . If this occurs a note will appear on your monthly billing statement which will state “Please Note: Meter readings have been estimated this month due to inclement weather and for the safety of our water operators.” If necessary, billing adjustments will be made the month following the resumption of actual meter reading.
If you are planning to be away from your property as the temperatures drop and you have not had your water service turned off and your home winterized, please leave a couple of faucets dripping in your household.
